C-ACE 2007 Masquerade and Talent Show

Like last year, we have decided to expand on the concept of the masquerade, and include a talent show aspect. At its core, a masquerade is in itself a kind of talent show, its participants often not only getting on stage in costumes, but performing skits, dances and songs. This year costumers and non-costumers alike can have an opportunity to get up on stage, and show off their stuff, be it simply a costume walk-on, a skit, or to play a song. Costumes not required! (But obviously encouraged! :) )

If you plan to enter, please read all the following information carefully.

We apologize, but there will not be costume judging again this year.

The show will take place Saturday evening. Please read the Con Book for the specific place and time, and be ready half an hour before. There will be a Green Room available for last-minute suiting up, costume repairs, and other preparations.

Entry Categories

    Costume Walk-ons
    Max of 1 minute.
For those wishing to do a traditional walk-on with their costume.

    Music/Dance
    Max of 5 minutes.
For those you want to sing their heart out, move their feet, or show off their instrument playing skills. Sorry, no microphones are available. The room will be small enough that it shouldn't matter. Note: the 'stage' will be a cleared section of carpet, not a raised hard platform. Please keep this in consideration.

    Skits
    Max of 5 minutes.
For those with writing and acting talents! If you are not able to speak loudly and clearly, consider pre-recording the skit lines onto a cassette or cd. And remember, some of the funniest skits are neither long nor have a single spoken line!

    Other
Have something really unusual in mind? Please contact the talent director with your idea.

All entries are subject to approval by the director.

If you have something specific for the MC to introduce you with, or have a presentation that needs some narration, please provide it with your registration. (If registering at the con, make sure it is written legibly, if not typed!) Include clear pronunciation guides for any weird names, or else do not hold the MC accountable if it is mangled! The MC will make an effort, but cannot perform miracles.

Any music to be used must be provided to the director by noon, Saturday. Acceptable formats include cued audio tapes or audio CDs or CD-Rs with name and track clearly labeled. It is highly recommended to have only the one piece on the tape or CD-R to prevent miscues. If the original piece of music is longer than your presentation, please find a way to fade it off at the appropriate length.

All possible, probable, and even improbable weapons must conform with the Convention Policies. No live weapons or live flame will be accepted during your performance. Anything else must be peace-bonded and submitted to the Ops director for verification before the Masquerade registration deadline. Please advise the Masquerade Director in advanc e if you intend to wear something peace-bonded.

How to Register

To register your (or your group's) entry, please fill in the Masquerade and Talent Show Registration Form and email it to the director as soon as possible. Registrations will also be accepted at the convention until Saturday at noon, as long as there is still space for entries. Please make sure you know what you want to do before the convention! To make sure your entry will be approved, applying via email before the convention is highly recommended. Blank registration sheets will be available at the Con Registration. Entry registrations and cassettes/cds should be turned in to Jennifer Brook at the Dealers Room Registration table.

To email your registration or as any questions, please contact the Masquerade and Talent Show director at masquerade@c-ace.org
