Pre-Registration is now closed See you at the door in June! Thank you! (May 2007) PRE-REGISTRATION IS CLOSED! We thank all of you who have pre-registered for the con this year! Also, the hotel room block is now open to the public; you can still try calling the hotel (613-567-7275 or toll-free 1-800-465-7275) and quote Group Reservation #195936, but now the rate or availability is not guaranteed. We still have our Program Book cover contest going on! Deadline is May 12! And you don't have to attend the con to send in an entry! Watch this space for Programming information soon! (April 2007) There's very little time left until the con! We would like to introduce our Author Guest, the talented Fiona Patton! Her first fantasy series, The Branion Realm, has garnered critical praise for its solid character interactions and no-nonsense and refreshing open-mindedness to character relationships. It includes everything from a royal family fighting for its throne, to seers delving into a realm of visions in which they borrow animal forms. Something for everyone! She's hard at work on the second book of her new series. We have also heard that author Dr Violette Malan will grace us with her presence - two authors for the price of one! Due to the late announcement and update, we have decided to extend the pre-registration deadline. It will now close at the end of May 4, 2007 so get your money in now! Remember that we will draw one name from all pre-registrants, and that person will win their money back! Also, we have extended the deadline for our Program Book Cover contest to May 12, 2007 - see the Program Book page for details! You can still send us suggestions for Panels you could help with! You can host a workshop, run a demo, or a discussion panel, by yourself or with someone else. Any number of creative or social topics will be considered, so get in contact with us at programming@c-ace.org to let us know! We still have spaces for the Dealers Room and Art Show, but don't delay! Looking to book a hotel room? You have until May 7, 2007 to get your reservation at a guaranteed rate, after which the rooms will be open for general booking. Remember that the hotel has always sold out in June. Remember to ask to book under Reservation Code #195936 to be counted! A more detailed list of preliminary programming will be available soon, so watch this space! (January 2007) Welcome to the new C-ACE 2007 web site We are hard at work to prepare what will be the ultimate C-ACE con, and make it as enjoyable as any other year has been. We have already one great multitalented guest in Andrew “Loopy” Pidcock, artist, costumer and entertainer; we hope to announce an author guest soon. We are back to our regular weekend in early June, two weeks after Anime North and four weeks before Anthrocon. Now there’s no reason not to come! You will find the online registration links, as well as all the usual information on our Program Book cover contest, Dealers Room and Art Show, initial programming (updated regularly) and whatever else we can think to cram in here. And while we can’t call it an “early bird” draw, we’ll pick a name from all those who pre-registered and they will win back their price of admission! Remember that pre-registration online and by mail closes on April 30. The Program Book contest closes a little earlier on April 22. We would like to remind all US attendees coming in by plane that passports are now mandatory I.D. for air travel. If you need one, we recommend starting early as there are a few delays at the moment. Land travel (car, train, bus) does not yet require passports, but they are 'recommended'." Sadly, the current economic and logistical realities make it enormously difficult for smaller conventions to survive. We have been looking hard into any possible growth we might have, and we are forced to accept that any function space where we might fit is now priced far too high for our budget. Many hotels have seen their operating costs soar in the past few years, and places that were affordable in 2002 have now literally doubled in price today. C-ACE was never meant to have really big crowds, and unfortunately any Ottawa con would now need a minimum of 750 registrations to be able to afford proper space. There is also a distinct lack of mid sized facilities in the city, making growth difficult past the point we are now. Moving the convention to another city would be impossible as the core group able to work on the con and who gave it its identity remains in Ottawa; it would end up being a completely different con, so we have decided to retire the name. So we shall have a Last Hurrah, a celebration of what we achieved: a small, friendly convention where people from many fandoms interact and learn in all facets of fandom creativity. We have had people who found their preconceptions of other fandoms turned around for the better. We have helped people discover new ways to be creative. And we have addicted many people to REAL chocolate. So this will be your last chance. Come and party with us. And we will have one heck of a Really Dead Dog once it’s over. |
